Who can list

“Child psychotherapist” isn’t a title protected by law in the UK, which is why we ask for a register entry. The ACP is the professional body for child and adolescent psychotherapists in the UK. On the join form, choose “Association of Child Psychotherapists” as your register and enter your ACP membership number.

On Find, you appear under the Counsellor / Psychotherapist profession. You can add “Child and adolescent psychotherapy” as your title or specialism and say what ages you work with.

People contacting practitioners through Therapist Circle must be 18 or over, so introduction requests come from adults, such as parents and carers.

Counsellors, psychotherapists, psychologists and psychiatrists are just as welcome, and every profession is listed on the same terms. See our page for practitioners.

Which register we check

The ACP register. We search by your name and the ACP membership number you give us and check they match a current entry that shows as registered. Our child and adolescent psychotherapy guide shows clients how to check.

What you get, free

  • A public profile on Find a therapist, if you choose to appear, under the Counsellor / Psychotherapist profession on Find. It shows your register and number so people can check you themselves.
  • Private introduction requests. People write to you through us and your email address is never shown.
  • A members’ directory and peer space, messaging, and referrals between colleagues across professions.
  • Links and resources, including a private practice start-here list.
  • A free membership badge linking to your profile.

There are no paid tiers, featured spots, reviews or ratings, and we don’t take commission. Being listed doesn’t guarantee enquiries, clients or income. Therapist Circle is new and still growing, so there may be few listings from your profession yet.

How to list your practice

  1. Fill in the short join form with your name, profession, register and registration number. It takes about two minutes and you get member access straight away. The join form asks you to confirm that you have appropriate professional indemnity insurance or arrangements for the work you offer.
  2. We look you up on the public register by hand before your profile appears on Find. We don’t promise a specific timing.
  3. When your name and number match, your profile can go live. You can hide it or delete your account at any time. We re-check listed practitioners at least once a year, and we don’t run identity checks.

Other places to be found

You can be listed in more than one place, and being on Therapist Circle doesn’t affect any professional-body membership. These are the organisations we know of for this profession. We are independent of all of them, and details can change, so please check their own pages for who can be listed and any cost.

Things to know

  • We check the register entry only. We don’t check certificates, training or DBS status. Anyone working with children should expect to be asked about enhanced DBS (or PVG in Scotland) checks.
  • We don’t check membership of any other professional body.
  • We check that your name and registration number match a current entry on the public register. A check is only correct on the day it was made, and it isn’t an identity check or a guarantee.
