Help Clients Find You on Therapist Circle
In short: a clear profile, the Issues list for your profession, an up-to-date “taking new clients” status, and an optional Google-visible profile page make it easier for the right people to find you. None of this costs anything, and none of it is a promise of referrals.
Therapist Circle is a free directory for every registered therapy profession, not only counselling and psychology. This short guide shows the free tools that help clients match what they need with what you actually work with.
Uses your browser’s own voice. Nothing is sent to us.
Please read. This is practical information for practitioners listed on Therapist Circle, not marketing advice and not a guarantee of clients. We check registration numbers against the public register; we do not verify identity or endorse anyone. Always follow your own professional body’s advertising and marketing guidance (for example the CAP Code / ASA rules for UK ads). If a client needs urgent help, they should use the crisis routes on our public pages, not an introduction form.
The basics
Clients search by profession, place, online or in person, and what they need help with. Your public profile should say, in your own words:
- your profession and register details (shown with the date we checked the number)
- where you work, as you want it shown (town, county or online) — we never publish a home address
- whether you offer online sessions, in-person sessions or both
- a short bio that matches how you actually practise
Edit these under My profile. For writing tips, see writing your therapist profile and getting therapy clients without paying for ads.
Issues I work with
On Account you can tick Issues I work with. The list is written for your profession: an occupational therapist sees OT-relevant presentations, a speech and language therapist sees SLT ones, a counsellor sees counselling ones, and so on. Tick only what you work with. Leave it empty and nothing is shown on your profile.
What you tick:
- appears on your public profile under “Issues I work with”, with a note that you chose the list and that we check registration only
- helps people filter Find by issue
Open Account → Issues I work with to fill it in. It takes a few minutes and you can change it any time.
Taking new clients
In Account you can set whether you are taking new clients, on a waitlist, or not taking new clients. Find can filter on that status. Update it when things change so people are not contacting you when you have no space.
Optional Google-visible profile
Your listing can show on Find without appearing in Google. If you want your public profile page to be eligible for search engines, turn on the optional switch in Account. It stays off unless you choose it, and you can switch it off later under My profile. Town searches such as “counsellor Manchester” are often won by individual profile pages, so this is worth considering once your profile is complete — still optional.
Badge and your own website
Once your listing is live, Account shows a free website badge and a plain link to your profile. Putting that link on your own site helps people reach the right page. It is not an endorsement or quality mark.
Every profession
Therapist Circle is for every registered therapy profession. If you are an occupational therapist, speech and language therapist, physiotherapist, dietitian, arts therapist, play therapist, family therapist, CBT therapist, psychologist, psychotherapist or counsellor, the same free tools apply. Profession guides for clients sit under who does what.
Common Questions
What should I fill in first on my Therapist Circle profile?
Start with your profession, registration body and number, where you work (town or online), and whether you see people online, in person or both. Then tick Issues I work with using the list for your profession, and set whether you are taking new clients.
Why does each profession have its own Issues list?
Occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, dietitians, arts therapists and talking therapists work with different presentations. The list you see matches your profession, so clients can filter Find for what they need without a generic catch-all.
Will ticking Issues make Google rank me higher?
Issues help people filter Find on Therapist Circle. Separately, you can optionally switch on “Show my profile in search engines” in Account so your public profile page can appear in Google. That is optional and stays off unless you turn it on.
Do I have to switch my profile on for Google?
No. Your listing can show on Find without appearing in Google. Account explains the optional switch. You can turn it off later under My profile.
Where do I get a free badge for my own website?
In Account, under Your badge, once your listing is live. Linking from your own site to your Therapist Circle profile helps people (and search engines) find the right page.
Please read. We’re a directory: we don’t provide therapy, give medical advice or diagnose, and we don’t recommend, endorse or guarantee any practitioner. Always check a practitioner’s registration yourself on the public register; any check we show was correct only on the day it was made.
