Check a therapist’s register
Choose a profession to find the official UK register to check. Ask the practitioner which register they’re on, then search it yourself.
See all professions
- Art therapist, art psychotherapist, dramatherapist or music therapist: Health and Care Professions Council (arts therapists, numbers start AS)
- Child and adolescent psychotherapist: Association of Child Psychotherapists. UKCP also registers psychotherapists who work with children and young people
- CBT therapist or cognitive behavioural psychotherapist: CBT Register UK
- Clinical, counselling, educational, forensic, health, occupational, or sport and exercise psychologist: Health and Care Professions Council (practitioner psychologists, numbers start PYL)
- Counsellor: The accredited register they name, such as BACP, NCPS, ACC, UKCP or, in Scotland, COSCA
- Dance movement psychotherapist: ADMP UK’s Professional Register (not a PSA accredited register when we checked)
- Dietitian: Health and Care Professions Council (numbers start DT)
- Family therapist or family and systemic psychotherapist: UK Council for Psychotherapy
- Occupational therapist: Health and Care Professions Council (numbers start OT)
- Physiotherapist: Health and Care Professions Council (numbers start PH)
- Play therapist: British Association of Play Therapists or Play Therapy UK
- Psychiatrist: General Medical Council medical register
- Psychoanalytic or psychodynamic psychotherapist: British Psychoanalytic Council, or the register they name, such as UKCP
- Psychological wellbeing practitioner: CBT Register UK
- Psychotherapist: The register they name, such as UKCP, BACP, BPC or NCPS
- Speech and language therapist: Health and Care Professions Council (numbers start SL)
